Things to See in Costa Calma
The Main Street
Since Costa Calma is a fairly young and artificially grown place, you will only find a few sights there. The most notable among the few things to see of the resort is the main road. There are countless palms and pines on each side of the street. Over the years these have grown into a forest-like road in the middle of the arid and sandy landscape of the island. This green tunnel keeps the street noise away. The paths and quiet areas created inside of it invite you to take a walk under the shady crowns.
Risco del Gato
The cat cliff, is located southwest of Costa Calma. The effort of climbing up is rewards with a breathtaking view over the rows of houses of the village. You will also overlook the beautiful endless sandy beaches and the turquoise Atlantic.
The African Street Market
On Wednesdays and Sundays there is a market in Costa Calma, where African traders offer all sorts of junk, but also some pretty and partly self-made souvenirs. To haggle for the price with the traders, may not sound good, but you should still consider it because it is often “tourist prices” that have been adjusted a little upwards.
The Cañada del Rio Wind Farm
When leaving the town towards the south, the Cañada del Rio wind farm is hard to miss. It is the largest of its kind in the Canary Islands. It was installed here, since the wind drives the propellers all year round.
Things to See in Tarajalejo
The local attractions include the Plaza, lined with giant Indian laurel trees that provide plenty shade to rest and chill out. In the surrounding restaurants you can enjoy fresh fish and seafood. Shopping in Costa Calma
There are numerous shopping opportunities in Costa Calma, since there are various Centro Comerciales spread throughout the city. To mention only the two most important ones: The Centro Comercial El Palmeral is probably the largest shopping center in the city. It is well located on a public road. On two floors you will find boutiques and shops that fulfill all the wishes of shopping lovers. While there are shops, as well as restaurants and a supermarket in the Centro Comercial Botanico.
The Nightlife in Costa Calma
Of course, there is also nightlife in this tourist resort. You can spend the night in various bars and pubs. For those who want have a blast on a night out, you can hit the dance floor in one of the nightclubs after midnight. It is very popular to dance under the stars in the open-air disco PMP.

The Beaches in Costa Calma
Although the resort itself has little to offer, this shortcoming is more than offset by its beautiful beaches. The beach Playa de Costa Calma is located directly in town. The wide golden sandy beach leads flat into the sea and the shallow water makes it the ideal beach for the whole family. Further south you will find the Playa de la Barca, which is popular with kiters and surfers due to the strong winds and good waves. Here you can book courses or rent equipment in the “René Egli” kite school.
The Weather in Costa Calma
The locality is considered the “coolest place” in Fuerteventura. But you can hardly take that seriously, as in this case we talk about one degree less than average temperature. Due to the quite strong wind at times, which blows here all year round, the weather feels a bit cooler here. In fact, according to the climate table, the temperatures are between 22 and 24 degrees Celcius in the winter months and between 24 and 28 degrees in the summer. Over 30 degrees are rarely reached. With about 35 rainy days a year, it does not rain more often in Costa Calma than in the rest of the island.
