And who doesn't know this picture? The heroes' ride into the sunset at the end of the movie. That is also possible for you on the island. Take a ride while the sun goes down. Who Is Riding in Fuerteventura For?

Riding is one of the activities that are suitable for almost everyone. It hardly matters how much riding experience you have, how old you are and whether you are sporty or not. You should definitely like animals. And if you are largely healthy, there is nothing that stands between you and the feel-good moments during a riding excursion.

Riding For Beginners

Do you like animals and are you always interested in new things? In this case as a beginner you are in the right place in Fuerteventura. Of course you will not learn to ride in one day. But that's not what these riding excursions are about. As a newcomer, you will be instructed in detail and make a few rounds for practice on the paddock before going outside. You will start the adventure with the others at a calm pace. After only a short time, you will make friends with your four-legged friend and with the increasing trust, enjoy the surroundings and the rhythmic movement more and more. At this point, you will feel a rush of happiness hormones and at that moment you understand why riding is a real passion.

Riding For Children

It has even been scientifically proven that horses have a very positive effect on children. They get a better sense of responsibility and empathy when dealing with them. Apart from that, many children dream of riding a horse once. Such a dream can come true in Fuerteventura. Children from the age of 6 can mount their own horse or pony on the riding excursions. They are accompanied by trained riding instructors who patiently prepare them for their exciting experience.

Advanced Riding

The operators of riding excursions in Fuerteventura keep the group sizes at a maximum of 6 to 8 people. That means it will always be small enough groups to offer all participants the most beautiful riding experience according to their skills. If possible, the groups may also be arranged for advanced only. So that you sometimes can gallop through the plains or you can get one of the more spirited horses.

What Are the Requirements For Riding?

First of all, you should enjoy the best of health. If you have serious problems with your back or with the musculoskeletal system in general, you should refrain from riding. Another important requirement is that you shouldn't be afraid of these animals. You need to quickly build trust in your horse and if you are afraid of it, it will not work. The minimum age for children to ride on their own is around 6 years depending on the operator. Since the ride should also be a pleasure for the animals, a maximum weight is specified for the rider. And finally, you should have a big heart for animals in general. You can find out which requirements you have to meet for each of our excursions under the points “Please Note!” and “Services & Prices”.

What Should You Consider When Booking?

Before you book a riding excursion with us, you should check the requirements for participation (see above) in detail. Furthermore, the preparation of the ride is made easier for the operator if you indicate whether and which riding experience you already have during booking process. You can do so in the field “Booking Notes”. Please verify whether and from which place the hotel transfer is offered and whether this service is included in the price. You will find out which services are included and which you may have to pay for by reading the detailed descriptions of our excursions. All the information above is listed under “Please Note!” and “Services & Prices”. Finally, we recommend that you book your riding excursion well in advance, as this type of activity is very popular and places can quickly be sold out.

What Should You Bring to a Horseback Riding Excursion?

The operator will provide a riding helmet. Apart of this some operators also offer boots and snacks. Find out here what else you should have with you:

  • Firm, closed shoes: If you do not get riding boots from the operator, you may only ride with firm and closed shoes, like trainers. Flip flops or sandals are not allowed.
  • Sportswear: Put on something comfortable. However, they shouldn't be your best clothes, as they get dusted by the horse and also during the ride.
  • Jackets: In the winter season, it can get a little chilly at times, especially when riding during sunset. To be safe, take thin jackets with you.
  • Eating and drinking: If the price of the excursion does not include meals, bringing a few snacks and plenty of drinking water is highly recommended.
  • Sunscreen with high SPF: On some routes there is little or no shade-providing vegetation. It is therefore important that you apply sufficient sunscreen.

Camel Rides Fuerteventura

Most people know the long caravans of camels from movies and pictures. In fact, camels have been and are still being used as a means of transportation for thousands of years. They are strong, persistent and can store so much water in their humps that they can do without drinking for up to 10 days. At the same time, they are also very popular among holidaymakers so that safaris with camels are also offered in Fuerteventura. You will not sit back on the camel as you would with a horse. Racks are strapped onto the humps, and up to three guests can sit on their seats. No riding experience is required for riding camels in Fuerteventura.

Where Can You Go Camel Riding in Fuerteventura?

The Oasis Park, which can be found between Tarajalejo and Costa Calma in La Lajita, claims to keep the largest population of camels in Europe with around 450 animals. The dromedaries have enough space on the 20,000 square meter site of the camel reserve. The huge number ensures that the camels do not have to "work" every day and thus have enough time for their normal camel life. The camel safari in Oasis Park takes about 30 to 45 minutes. You will be led through the Oasis Park past the camel reserve on two different routes, the botanical garden and an artificially created African savannah. On the somewhat longer route, the dromedaries take you up a mountain to the Mirador del Jardín. From here you have a breathtaking view over the park and to Jandía Playa. The camel safari costs extra (€ 12 adults / € 8 children - as of 2019) and is available only to visitors of the Oasis Park who have already paid the entrance fee (€ 35 adults / € 20.50 children - as of 2019).

What Is the Difference Between Camels and Dromedaries?

If you do not know immediately whether it is a camel or dromedary, you will be helped quickly. Because with “camel” you are always right. All one and two-humped species belong to the genus of camels. These two-toed ungulates and are then divided into the subspecies Bactrian camels and Dromedary. Here's the answer to the riddle: Bactrian camels come from Asia and have two bumps. And the African dromedaries are those with only one hump. Bactrian animals grow taller and are heavier than their relatives. They reach a shoulder height of up to 2.3 meters and a weight of up to 1,000 kilograms. The dromedaries look a bit more delicate and reach a maximum shoulder height of around 2 meters and a maximum weight of up to 540 kilograms.
