Parque Natural de Jandía

The nature park is a mountain range that stretches from La Pared to Punta de Jandía. At 807 meters, the Pico de la Zarza is the highest mountain on the island. The Parque Natural de Jandía acts as a natural wall that protects the tourist resorts on the south and southeast coast from the strong winds. While the wind blows heavily on west side of the kilometer-long Playa Cofete beach. Only unpaved roads and narrow paths lead through this massif. Many of them can only be accessed by foot or bicycle. Therefore, this area is extremely popular with nature lovers and mountain bikers. Stop your exploration tours once in a while and enjoy the views, because they are spectacular.
The Faro de Punta Jandía Lighthouse

This lighthouse is located on the extreme southwest tip of the Jandía peninsula. Getting there via unpaved tracks, past abandoned settlements and the mountain range of the Jandía Natural Park is a little adventure in itself. The lighthouse was put into operation in 1864 and is still in use today. It has been open to visitors since 2009 and you can admire at the remains of a sperm whale in the attached museum. You will also learn a lot of interesting things about the peninsula in the south of Fuerteventura.
Mirador del Barranco de los Canarios

Seen from Playa los Canarios, the hiking trail to the viewpoint Mirador del Barranco de los Canarios starts on the opposite side of the FV-2. You should have a certain basic degree of fitness if you want to walk there. After all, it is about 12 kilometers to get to this viewpoint – one of the most impressive in Fuerteventura, as many say. In any case, the view rewards you for your effort, because from here you can let your gaze wander along the beautiful west coast up to El Cotillo. Only birds have a better view.

The Weather in the South of Fuerteventura

The weather in the south of the holiday island is subject to a west-east division. The hours of sunshine on the eastern side of the Parque Natural de Jandía are very high with over 3,000 hours a year. In the western part, however, the climate is somewhat different. Because sometimes clouds accumulate in the mountains of the Bay of Cofete and therefore there are a few cloudy days here and again. And while the towns between Jandia and Morro Jable are more sheltered from the wind, a fair breeze will blow through your hair in Costa Calma. But this also has advantages and is particularly pleasing to surfers and kiters, but also to those who appreciate cooling off in summer temperatures. The thermometer in Costa Calma rarely climbs over 30 degrees due to the wind. Measured in absolute terms, it is the coolest place on the island. While instead the temperatures, on the climate table of the less windy south, correspond again to the average values on the Canary Island.
The Most Beautiful Beaches in the South of Fuerteventura
Playa Risco del Paso

This popular white sandy beach lies between Costa Calma and Mal Nombre. It is a little out of the way and borders on high dunes in the south. This beach is particularly well known among surfers, because the Fuerteventura Windsurfing & Kiteboarding World Cups are held here.
Playa del Matorral
This is one of the beaches in the south of Fuerteventura that stretches in front of some hotels. Its sand is fine and light. Due to its excellent water quality, the beach has already been awarded with the Blue Flag. Here you will find umbrellas and loungers for rent and beach bars offer cool drinks and snacks. You can stroll down to Morro Jable on the adjacent beach promenade.
Playas de Matas Blancas
This section has become a Mecca for wind and kite surfers in recent years. It is very windy with sometimes high waves. Therefore, the beach is hardly suitable for swimming. In the meantime, a kite and windsurfing school has opened its doors there, so that also beginners can be introduced to the wet adventure.
